Hamish Blake says Hughesy and Kate have 'got their work cut out for them'

Hamish Blake and Andy Lee are wrapping up their radio careers after 14 years on air, but they don't seem too fazed about their audience forgetting them any time soon.

In fact 35-year-old Hamish says the duo's replacements, Dave Hughes and Kate Langbroek, will have big shoes to fill when they take over the drive-time slot on the Hit Network (includes Sydney's 2Day FM) next year.

"They’ve got their work cut out for them," he laughed when speaking to Be in the Myer marquee at the 2017 Derby Day held in Melbourne on Saturday.

But as per usual, the comedian made it very obvious that he was joking and is actually a big fan of Hughesy and Kate, who've both been in the entertainment industry for over 20 decades collectively.

"We always said we wanted to vacate and make way for hot new young talent and these kids have got what it takes," he joked to Be.

"We’ve been here for 12 years, you can’t hug all the spots. These guys need it, they deserve a shot."

Last month, Gemma Fordham, Hit FM’s Head of Content, said: “We are delighted one of radio’s most enduring and hilarious duets, Hughesy and Kate, are joining our new Drive line up for 2018.”

As for what Hamish and his partner-in-crime Andy will be doing next year, the radio star says "not a lot".

"We’ve got True Stories season two coming out which we will work hard on, but look not a lot. I mean we’ll still keep our podcast going," he explained to Be.

"I think between keeping a regular podcast happening and doing a TV show, I’m probably just looking forward to a bit more time just seeing what else the future holds."
