Amber Heard jokes about Johnny Depp dog scandal in awards speech

She made headlines back in 2015 when her pet dogs entered Australia without going through quarantine, and now two years later Amber Heard has decided to joke about it upon her return to the country.

The 31-year-old actress was named GQ magazine's Woman Of The Year at its annual awards event on Wednesday night, and when accepting her award she joked it was "on behalf of my dogs".

In 2015 Amber spent time in Australia while then-husband Johnny Depp filmed Pirates Of The Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales. In May of that year it was discovered that her pet dogs, Pistol and Boo, were staying at the pair's rented Gold Coast home, but were not declared disease-free.

With Australia having strict quarantine regulations, politician Barnaby Joyce threatened to euthanise the dogs, and called for Amber to be prosecuted over the incident.

"If we start letting movie stars – even though they've been the sexiest man alive twice – to come into our nation (with pets), then why don't we just break the laws for everybody?" Joyce said back then.

He added: "It's time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States".

Amber and ex Johnny Depp previously had to apologise to the Australian government for bringing the pets in without being without being declared disease-free.

In December of that year, Amber said she would never return to Australia, but ended up having to do so for a hearing.

Amber was slapped with a one-month good behaviour bond and $1000 fine, and a video of her and Johnny was presented before a magistrate, in which they said they were 'truly sorry' for what had happened.
