ARIA Awards 2017: We tried out Meghan Markle's look

I've been a fan of Meghan Markle from the good old Suits days, well before Prince Harry came along.

In fact last year I dressed up as the stunner for our Christmas party, and am known to channel corporate chic Rachel Zane on occasion when some serious meetings are scheduled.

This week the royal engagement was sprung upon us, and it's pretty fair to say that Meghan mania has spread across the world. So as I prepared for the 2017 ARIA Awards this week, I chose to take a leaf out of the future princess' style book for Australian music's night of nights.

Think of a neat side-parting of the hair, soft makeup and an elegant frock for the red carpet, all in the hope of attracting a Harry of my own on the night... Mr Styles, here's looking at you.

Hair and makeup artist Helani Sarath-Kumara, who is the founder of Gather & Stitch Beauty in Sydney, says the key to achieving Meghan's signature look is by striking the right balance when highlighting facial features for impact.

"With the hair, keep it simple and smooth," says Helani, who created my look for the ARIAs. "She’s [Meghan] usually got a slight wave in the hair but the key is to keep it effortless and classic.

Then it's all about "choosing to highlight either the eyes or lips".

"With makeup she often does a soft dark smokey eye with a nude or neutral lip, or a fresh natural eye with a deeper lip colour. Her main focus is always on the mascara!"

Helani says that Meghan's look is expected to be requested more often now that the royal engagement has been announced.

"I think women love her look because it looks simple yet classy," she tells Be.

"It’s a look that’s not over done and easy for us to be inspired by and replicate. Her beauty comes from confidence in her own skin!"
