Fergie 'crashes' awards with awkward speech

Fergie's attempts to get the audience laughing at the TrevorLive Gala have fallen flat, with the singer giving a cringe-worthy speech instead.

As actor Armie Hammer took the stage to introduce the gala's honouree, designer Tom Ford, the 42-year-old Glamourous singer appeared to "crash" his speech, interrupting Hammer and making her way to the mic. Watch the awkward moment in the clip above.

"Oh yes... ladies and gentlemen, Fergie!" Hammer told the crowd as Fergie taps him on the shoulder.

And while she received applause to start with, that's as far as it went as Fergie stumbled through her awkward speech and making a joke that she was actually Armie Hammer.

"No, I’m not Fergie; I am actually Armie Hammer," she can be seen awkwardly starting in footage obtained by E! News.

Fergie continued, dedicating the start of her rambling speech to Tom Ford.

"Thank you. I am going to win at the Academy Awards... But, uh, Tom Ford is here. He’s here on this bag. He’s here on this amazing T-shirt, mock-style, long-sleeve shirt and fabulous skirt and pumps. But, he’s also here as a person," she continued.

"And the thing is, behind all the Tom Ford life, which I thrive to get - I was really embarrassed that I didn’t have Tom Ford makeup in my bag, by the way; so shaming - he is a person of compassion... He’s a director. He loves to see people’s feelings and listen."

But the awkwardness didn't stop there, with Fergie using her time on stage to plug her new single A Little Work.

"This is not a shameless promotion; I have a lot of shame. Uh, I have a new song called A Little Work, and I have a version that has alternate verses... Because honestly, just sitting there with you tonight, Tom Ford - purse-bag man, the myth, the legend - it made me think of that," she went on.

After wrapping up, Hammer took the stage again playing on Fergie's joke that she was actually him laughing, "If I had a nickel for every time that I was confused with Fergie."

And while her stage-crashing moment seemed spontaneous, Fergie's rep seemed to downplay the whole incident telling People it was a pre-planned gag.

"It was a gag that everyone at the table came up with that fell flat due to timing," the outlet reports.
