Selena Gomez was suggested to play Meghan Markle... and the internet's not happy
The Crown star Matt Smith has faced a wave of backlash after suggesting singer and actress Selena Gomez could portray Prince Harry's fiancee Meghan Markle in the popular TV show, if their romance became a part of the storyline.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the 35-year-old actor was asked by a fan who should play Suits star Meghan, and it didn't take long for Selena's name to come to his mind.
But a lot of fans are not happy with Matt's response, as 36-year-old Meghan is half-black while 25-year-old Selena is Latinx.
Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "Well ya know there are just no mixed raced actresses anywhere in the UK or US so".
"Or we could get an actual black person. Where oh where could we find one," another fan penned.
Matt's appearance on Watch What Happens Live was alongside The Crown co-star Claire Foy.

"Who’s that singer?” Matt asked on the show as they thought of someone to play Meghan.
"Selena Gomez!" he exclaimed.
Claire teased, "You love Selena Gomez!" before giving Meghan and Prince Harry her tick of approval.
"We love that they’re getting married. It’s amazing. She’s an actress so that’s great," Claire said.
“Well, she’s not anymore. Her life’s over,” Matt then joked.
