Deborah Knight announces she's leaving Weekend Today
Deborah Knight has announced she is departing Weekend Today.
On Tuesday morning, the Channel Nine host revealed she would be moving on to a new position.
"I have a new role, which is great," the 45-year-old said live on air, just months after Lisa Wilkinson announced her shock departure from the Today weekday breakfast program/
But there's good news for Deborah's Nine Network family, as the host is not leaving the channel, she is just moving to a primetime news slot.
"I'll be hosting the 6pm bulletin in Sydney on Friday and Saturday nights," Deborah revealed.
She also insisted she wasn't leaving the Today family and will still act in as a fill-in host for Georgie Gardner, Sylvia Jeffreys and Sonia Kruger when needed.
Deborah's move to primetime comes after Lisa Wilkinson - who Deb filled in for before Georgie joined the Nine breakfast show - announced her departure from Today back in October.
The 57-year-old presenter and Karl Stefanovic's former co-host has revealed it was "tough" standing up for herself during contract negotiations with the television network.
"I’m living breathing proof that knowing your value will take you places you didn’t think you’d get to," she said, reports The Australian.
"Maybe my biggest crime is knowing my value," she added.
Lisa also said "it was a really simple decision in the end" as "when you feel that there’s a pattern being repeated, that’s when you have to take a stand".
The star's exit from Channel Nine after 10 years came after speculation surrounding her salary expectations, with reports she demanded the same pay as co-host Karl.
