Kochie defends 'men work hard' comment

Television presenter David 'Kochie' Koch has defended a comment he made on Sunrise on Wednesday morning, suggesting men work "harder" than women.

The 61-year-old media personality was presenting a segment on man flu, but his comment about men working "harder" than women wasn't well received by his female panel of co-hosts and guests.

Taking to Twitter after it aired, Kochie said it is "infuriatingly stupid" for a story about his remarks to be considered a "controversy" and that he and his cast mates were having "fun".

Speaking on air on Wednesday morning, Kochie said: "It's official, man flu is real. A Canadian researcher says males have a weaker immune system than women because we work so hard and are more likely to suffer complications".

He then added: "Do men demand more sympathy because women go to bed and get over it and men just keep moving and going on and working?"

As soon as the star said this, magazine publisher Jackie Frank, as well as co-hosts Samantha Armytage and Natalie Barr, made it clear that they were far from impressed with the remarks.

"Women power through, men do not," an outraged Jackie hit back. "What universe are you on?"

Kochie was adamant to stand by his research, saying, 'Science has proven that we get worn out because we work harder".

"Sam's up the same time as you," Jackie said, before Sam intervened, "earlier".

Jackie continued: "Because she's got to do an extra hour-and-half in makeup.

To this Kochie claimed that his female co-host Sam doesn't need to spend extra hime in the hair and makeup chair.

"Do you think our ratings would be as high if Nat and I just came and sat on set looking all crappy in the morning?" Samantha then chimed in, with Sunrise newsreader Natalie Barr sitting next to her.

Well said, Sam!
