Why celebrities will wear black at Golden Globes

Some of Hollywood's biggest actresses are set to take a stand against the sexual harassment scandal that has engulfed the entertainment industry at this year's Golden Globe Awards, and men are vowed to join the ladies in this statement too.

An insider spoke to US Weekly last month about the movement, admitting that it was originally just a small group of actresses who would be attending the award ceremony wearing black, but as the word has gotten out in Hollywood more actresses and even men have jumped on board to show their support.

"This movement is spreading rampantly and pretty much all the nominated women and others attending are participating," an insider told the outlet.

"All the stylists who already did fittings are now changing out their clients’ original picks for Globes."

Aussies Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie are expected to attend the ceremony after they received nominations, as are some fellow Hollywood heavyweights including Emma Stone, Helen Mirren, Saoirse Ronan, Judi Dench, Michelle Williams, Meryl Streep, Frances McDormand, Jessica Chastain, Sally Hawkins, Elisabeth Moss, Reese Witherspoon, Alison Brie, Issa Rae, Jessica Biel, Susan Surandon, Catriona Balfe, Claire Foy, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Katherine Langford.

It's likely to be a different kind of awards season next year after the sexual harassment scandal rocked Hollywood and took down some of the biggest and influential people in the industry including Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Piven, Brett Ratner, Dustin Hoffman, Steven Seagal, Louis C.K., Jeffrey Tambor, and Matt Lauer.

Closer to home, Australian TV presenter Don Burke was also accused of decades of bullying, harassment and abuse by former female staffers.

Comedian and late night talk show host Seth Meyers is set to host the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards, January 8, 2018.
