Rose McGowan slams Meryl Streep: ‘I despise your hypocrisy’

Rose McGowan has slammed the Hollywood actresses who are set to take a stand against the sexual harassment scandal that has engulfed the entertainment industry at next year's Golden Globe Awards, by saying they were part of the problem.

Some of the biggest stars were planning on wearing black in an act of solidarity and protest against the issue.

However Rose, who was one of the first women to level claims against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, has slammed the "silent" gesture, and identifying Oscar winner Meryl Streep as "fake."

In the now deleted tweet, Rose, 44, said, "Actresses, like Meryl Streep, who happily worked for The Pig Monster, are wearing black @GoldenGlobes in a silent protest."

"YOUR SILENCE is THE problem," she continued. "You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy. Maybe you should all wear Marchesa."

Huge Hollywood heavyweights, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep are among those attending and thought to be wearing the symbolic colour of black.

None of the men caught up in the scandal will be honoured at the January award ceremony.

The former Charmed star has been one of the loudest voices when it comes to condemning the 65-year-old movie producer, accusing Harvey of raping her in 1997.

According to the New York Times Rose was paid $US100,000 to drop sexual harassment claims against Harvey at the time.

Meryl Streep, 68, hasn't yet responded to the criticism but she has spoken in the past about Weinstein, calling the alleged behaviour "inexcusable."
