Neil Diamond cancels Aussie tour after Parkinson's diagnosis
Neil Diamond has cancelled his Australian tour after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
The singing icon had been set to visit Australia and New Zealand as part of his 50th anniversary world tour, but doctors have warned him he must retire from touring immediately.
The shock diagnosis was announced on the music veteran's website in a heartfelt message earlier today.
“It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce my retirement from concert touring," Neil, 77, wrote. "I have been so honoured to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years."
He went on to apologise to anyone who had purchased tickets and was looking forward to his upcoming shows, whilst promising he wasn't hanging up his microphone entirely.
"I plan to remain active in writing, recording and other projects for a long time to come," he wrote. "My thanks goes out to my loyal and devoted audiences around the world. You will always have my appreciation for your support and encouragement."
He finished his sad note by saying, "This ride has been ‘so good, so good, so good’ thanks to you,” which was a touching nod to one of his most famous tracks, Sweet Caroline.
Neil is set to receive Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy's this weekend and it's unclear if he will still perform at the show in New York.
Fans who bought tickets will be automatically generated refunds.
