Speaking exclusively to Be, Rachel shared what tempted her to take on the role as a competitive wife to her on-screen husband played by Jason Bateman, and how her social anxiety had a part to play in it.

"I have a little bit of social anxiety," the actress said, explaining she can relate to her character's preference to attend an intimate games night as opposed to an over-the-top dinner party with people she hardly knows.

"So going to a party and talking to a bunch of strangers makes me want to stay at home forever," she explained.

"To be able to go and do something active that everyone can do together, you end up having a lot more to talk about at the end of the night," she said of the role's appeal.

"You can dive in with strangers in games in a way that you can't just sitting around chatting five glasses of wine later."

The actress admitted that she wasn't a creature of habit and likes variety in life, and therefore playing different roles keeps things interesting.

"I feel like I do better work when I'm challenged and stretching different muscles, she said. "Comedy is such a different muscle than crying every day onset, so I find it exciting to switch it up."

Rachel revealed she thinks the climate in the film industry has changed and there's now more opportunities for women than there were when she began her career.

"There's a lot more opportunities and interesting female characters out there that are complex and deep and a lot more female driven," she said.

"I think that that's definitely coming along and there's a tonne more conversation around it, so I think that opens up the doors as well."

Game Night an American black comedy directed by John Francis and Jonathan Goldstein stars Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams who are a married couple and host a series of Game Night's with friends and one game night turns into a murder mystery.

The film also features supporting actors New Girls Larmorne Morris and The Wolf Of Wall Street's* Kyle Martin Chandler.

Roadshow's Game Night hits cinemas February 22, 2018.
