MKR star Roula's racism nightmare

She and TV partner Rachael are known as the fearless and outspoken duo, but My Kitchen Rules star Roula says it's taken time for her confidence to develop.

The 34-year-old has revealed she's previously been the victim of racially-motivated bullying, something that left a major imprint on her during her formative years growing up.

"I was bullied in primary school, but it was more racism bullying," Roula, who is Lebanese and Syrian descent, tells New Idea magazine.

"My primary school was pretty much all Australian, blonde hair, blue eyes, light skin," she explained.

"I got bullied for the different coloured skin and the darker hair, but then once I got to high school I didn't allow that to happen anymore and I felt a lot more confident in myself."

Roula and her TV partner Rachel have ensured they've had the last word in most cooking battles on My Kitchen Rules so far.

The unapologetic duo from group one went head-to-head in a sudden death cook-off with the rest of the teams in that group.

My Kitchen Rules continues at 7:30pm on Channel Seven.
