Music reality stars have really made an impact on the Australian entertainment industry. Big names such as Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian, The Collective, Ricki-Lee, Timomatic and Samantha Jade have all made their mark in Aussie music. We take a look at some of the top Australian music reality stars.
JESSICA MAUBOY - The 24-year-old pop star got her break from the fourth season of Australian Idol in 2006 and was signed to Sony Music Australia two weeks after the competition ended. Mauboy has since released several hits such as “What Happened To Us”, “Pop A Bottle (Fill Me Up)”, and “Running back” which featured worldwide music star Flo Rida. Mauboy had also won a ACCTA and Australian Film Critics award for best supporting actress for her performance in the 2012 film “Sapphires”. The brunette beauty also appeared on Ellen earlier this year to talk about her new album and what it was like to open for international superstar Beyonce.

GUY SEBASTIAN - Australia’s first ever Australian Idol has done our country proud! The gospel-loving Sebastian is one of the most successful Australian artists we have. His big afro made us love him in the beginning but his talent kept him at the top, with inspirational songs like “Battle Scars” and “Get Along”, it’s no wonder this guy is loved by many! The three-time ARIA winner was a judge on X-Factor Australia in 2010, 2011 and in 2012, but was unable to come back in the fifth season due to scheduling conflicts.
RICKI-LEE COULTER - Ricki-Lee was prematurely voted off Australian Idol in its second season. Her elimination shocked the nation, but that didn’t stop Ricki-Lee signing with the independent label Shock Records in 2004. Since then Ricki-Lee has released three albums, headlined two tours and opened for Hilary Duff and Backstreet Boy’s on their Australian tours. The 27-year-old is now signed to international record label EMI and has recently released her single “Come and Get in Trouble With Me”.

TIMOMATIC - The Australian singer first rose to fame on So You Think You Can Dance Australia in 2009 and then placed third on the fifth season of Australia’s Got Talent in 2011. Joining AGT allowed Timomatic to have full control over his sound and his styling and it worked! The 27-year-old is currently singed to Sony Music Australia and has opened for Flo Rida’s Australian tour, and Salt-n-Pepa in their Sydney concert. Earlier this year, it was revealed that he would come back to Australia’s Got Talent as a judge alongside Dawn French, Geri Halliwell, and Kyle Sandilands.

SAMANTHA JADE - This brunette beauty won X-Factor Australia last year and has clearly made her mark in the industry! The 26-year-old made several attempts at breaking into the industry and had succeeded until Jive Records dropped her in 2006. Due to the drop, her would-be-debut album “My Name is Samantha Jade” was never released and left the starlet in a deep state of depression. In her final attempt to come back into the industry, Jade audition for X-Factor Australia. Her professionalism and her amazing talent made her a shoe-in to win! The starlet released her new single “Firestarter” earlier this year, which is featured on her forthcoming album.
MATT CORBY - Matt Corby has got to be one of the most famous folk-rock artists out there and we’re proud to call him an Aussie! With big hits like “Brother” and “Resolution”, the ex-Australian Idol runner-up has come a long way from his reality TV days. The 22-year-old won a Song of the Year ARIA award for his single “Brother” and has been nominated for several other awards along the way.
DAMIEN LEITH - The 2006 Australian Idol winner has released five albums since his win and has appeared in the 2011 season of Australia’s Dancing with the Stars. This five-time ARIA award winner released his fifth album last year titled “Now & Then” and is currently on a national tour.
ANTHONY CALLEA - Anthony Callea was the eye-candy of the 2004 season of Australian Idol. Since the show, Callea has released four studio albums and won several awards, most recently from Australian Gospel Music in the Outstanding Achievement category for his rendition of “The Prayer”. Callea has also been involved in several theatrical productions such as Dead Man Walking, Rent, Wicked and Grease the Musical. The 30-year-old is also an activist for the fight for equality, as his latest single “My All” touches on the irrelevancy of gender in a relationship.
THE COLLECTIVE - Australia’s boy band “The Collective” were a shoe in to win X-Factor Australia last year but were sadly placed third in the competition. But that doesn’t matter, The Collective are without a doubt rising stars as their “Collectors” are becoming larger by the minute! With fans around the world, these boys will only get bigger!

SHANNON NOLL - Shannon Noll was the underdog of the first ever Australian Idol season in 2003. The 38-year-old has released six studio albums and won five ARIA awards, three Aussie MTV awards, three Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards as well as countless others. Last year Noll released his biography “Shannon Noll So Far…” and is currently touring the nation.
JOHNNY RUFFO - Ruffo is currently signed to Sony Records after coming third in the 2011 season of X-Factor. In 2012, Ruffo won the twelfth season of Dancing with the Stars Australia. He is currently starring in the long-time Australian Drama Home and Away. The hunky star was the supporting act for Reese Mastin, One Direction and the NKOTBSB (New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys) Australian leg tour.
SOPHIE MONK - This blonde beauty got her break from the 1999 reality music show, Popstar. The starlet didn’t make an impact through music, but rather is spotlighted for her beauty. For nine years straight, Monk was on FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women list and was on Maxims top 100 in 2011 and 2012.

STAN WALKER - Stan Walker won the last season of Australian Idol back in 2009 and has since made a career out of his smooth tunes. The singer has released three studio albums post-idol and has headlined two tours. Walker was also the supporting act for Jessica Mauboy, Nicki Minaj and will support Beyonce in her forthcoming “Mrs. Carter” tour.
WES CARR (BUFFALO TALES) - Ever tried searching for this 2008 Australian Idol winner and came up with stuff almost nothing? Well that’s because this Aussie artist dropped his name “Wes Carr” and took on the pseudonym “Buffalo Tales”! With several hits such as “Amsterdam”, “Crazy Heart”, and “Puppet Strings”, Carr has drifted from the pop-scene but has made his name in indie-folk industry.
