NATALIE PORTMAN - GOLDEN GLOBE FOR BEST ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA (2011)
Natalie Portman has captured the world's attention with her performance as a ballerina in Darren Arronofsky's "Black Swan." The normally dignified and reserved actress has had some failed acceptance speeches this season. From saying 'hi' to her grandma Bernice in Cincinatti ("I hope you're having a drink Grandma") to speaking of her fiance and baby-daddy, Benjamin Millepied. "You might remember him in the movie as the guy when they ask 'would you sleep with that girl' he was like 'no' He's the best actor, it’s not true. He totally wants to sleep with me." 'Nuff said.
ROBERT DE NIRO - CECIL B. DEMIL AWARD FOR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT(2011)
At this year's Golden Globe Awards Rober De Niro gave what can only be described as an awkward acceptance speech in which he insulted the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the waitstaff and his fellow actors. "Thank you for this extraordinary honor. I was very, very moved and gratified when you made the annoucement two months ago, well before you had a chance to review 'Little Fockers.' I saw those. It's OK, we all have our jobs to do…I'm sorry more members of the Foreign Press aren't with us tonight, many of them were deported right before the show. Along with most of the waiters. And Javier Bardem." Let's hope he gets some new speech writers before his next award.
CATHERINE ZETA JONES - TONY AWARD FOR BEST LEADING ACTRESS (2010)
When Catherine Zeta Jones gave an acceptance speech for winning her Tony Award, she also paid tribute to her husband, fellow actor Michael Douglas. "See that man there? He's a movie star and I get to sleep with him every night." Whilst the crowd roared their approval, Catherine later revealed that in hindsight her comments were 'crass.' Oops.
TAYLOR SWIFT (R) AND KANYE WEST (L) - MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARD FOR BEST FEMALE VIDEO (2009)
This is more Kanye's fail than it is Taylor's, but nethertheless an unforgettable fail in the history of award acceptance speechs. Just moments after Taylor accepted her moonman and began her speech, Kanye jumped on stage, took the mic and proceeded to announce that Beyonce deserved the award. Ouch.
GWYNETH PALTROW - ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST ACTRESS (1999)
The need to be dramatic goes with the territory for actresses, but the outpouring of emotion from Gwyneth at winning the Oscar in 1999 for 'Shakespear In Love' was almost traumatic. From thanking pretty much every person she'd ever met, to sobbing on stage, she left the audience dazed and cringing. Fail!
ANGELINA JOLIE - BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE (1998)
Angelina Jolie gave one of the creepiest acceptance speeches we've heard for her supporting role in 'Girl, Interrupted.' Taking to the mic, she said "I'm so in love with my brother right now! He just held me and said he loved me." Ooookay. Brotherly love much?
JAMES CAMERON - ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST DIRECTOR (1998)
Whilst we appreciate James Cameron's tireless vision as a director and producer of some of the best films of the last two decades, his attitude leaves little to be desired. His 1998 Osacars acceptance speech for 'Titanic' included a reference to being "the king of the world." Humble much?
FIONA APPLE - MTV AWARD FOR BEST NEW VIDEO (1997)
When Fiona Apple received the Best New Video award in 1997, she made hoardes of people wince with her worldly musings at 20 years old, stating that "the world is b*lls**t" and that fans "shouldn't model your life about what you think that we think is cool and what we're wearing and what we're saying and eating." Right-o. Hope the award sponsors didn't hear you.
