It appears that not much is known about actress Dakota Johnson, who was confirmed in the wee hours of the morning by '50 Shades of Grey' author E. L. James to play the good girl college-grad character of Anastasia Steele in the movie adaptation.

While the fan response has been pretty unwelcoming on Twitter, we feel that we should at least get to know a little bit about the 23-year-old actress set to break into the acting A-list stratosphere.

So here's what we've been able to find so far:

Dakota Johnson is Hollywood royalty
Dakota is the daughter of actress Melanie Griffith and 'Miami Vice' actor Don Johnson. She's also therefore the granddaughter of Tippi Hedren (Griffith's famous mother) and stepdaughter of Antonio Banderas (Griffith's now husband).

Dakota is an actress and model
Her first on screen gig was playing the daughter of her real mother Melanie Griffith in 'Crazy in Alabama', in 1999. This was directed by her stepfather Antonio Banderas, and her half sister Stella Banderas also played one of Griffith's daughters in the film.

Dakota was signed to IMG Models in 2006. Her modelling gigs include work for MANGO's jean line and also the Australian brand Wish in their Rising Star campaign in 2010.

'21 Jump Street' and 'The Social Network' are on her film credits list

They may have been blink-and-you'll-miss-her parts, but Dakota has been busy slowly climbing the Hollywood ladder as a rival undercover cop (Fugazy) in Jonah Hill's '21 Jump Street' reboot, as well as being the one-night-stand girl Justin Timberlake jumped into bed with in 'The Social Network'.

Most recently, Dakota had a lead role in the short-lived TV series 'Ben and Kate', and is currently working on the film 'Cymbeline,' a Shakespeare adaptation. Other film credits include 'The Five Year Engagement,' 'Need for Speed' and 'Theo'.

Dakota was a Miss Golden Globe
In 2006, the young actress received this auspicious title, and was the first second-generation Miss Golden Globe in the Globes' history (mother Melanie also had the honour in 1975).

While there's little information out there at the moment, expect to see more interesting facts come to light in the coming weeks about the little known actress.
