Samuel L. Jackson - who plays Major Marquis Warren in the film - revealed that the famous director had at first handed him the script on the proviso that it was never going to be made into a film.

"He told us he wasn't going to make the movie!" Jackson laughed.

"He sent [the script] to me and I was just reading it and was like, 'Oh, he wrote this part for me and they're never going to do this? Oh, OK."

"It's like torture!" said Kurt Russell, who plays John 'The Hangman' Ruth, a bounty hunter who is intent on seeing his prisoner brought to justice.

In a film, a group of 'hateful eight' characters are stranded in a one-room cabin during a snowstorm, where the lines between good and bad are quickly blurred.

The actors enjoyed "forming their own alliances" on set as they worked through the story.

"It's great to find out [who everyone is], isn't it?" Russell said.

"It's just great to watch it all unfold."
