Ford will be 77 years old by then.
The news was confirmed in a leaked press release that revealed Steven Spielberg would also return to direct.
The press release confirms Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce but there’s no indication whether franchise co-creator George Lucas will be involved.
Lucas sold the rights to Indiana Jones to Disney when he offloaded Lucasfilm for $4billion in 2012, and he’s effectively retired from filmmaking so his non-involvement isn’t much of a surprise.
"Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019," said Disney’s Alan Horn.
"It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven."
The last Indy film - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - was released to a mixed critical reception back in 2008.
