Turtles meet purple goo in new ‘Out of the Shadows’ trailer

The new trailer for the sequel to 2014′s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, has our be-shelled heroes discovering a mystery purple ooze.

The spot kicks off at New York’s Halloween parade, "the one night of the year we fit in", says Michelangelo.

We then get a fast-cut compilation of the apocalyptic threat from the sky and the dangerous one from the ground, where the Turtles old enemy Shredder (Brian Tee) has enlisted a mad scientist (Tyler Perry) to create some mutants of his own - the baddies Bebop and Rocksteady - with the aforementioned ooze.

But as our team quickly realises: If the gunk turns humans into animals, could it turn Mutant Ninja Turtles into…humans?

While they puzzle out that existential quandary, we’re also treated to shots of Arrow star Stephen Amell as Casey Jones, Megan Fox as ace reporter April O’Neil strutting through Grand Central Station in a naughty Catholic school outfit, and Master Splinter (voiced by Tony Shalhoub) offering - what else? - some sage advice.

Out of the Shadows will be hitting Aussie cinemas on June 9.
