Lizzy Caplan loved 'freedom' on Now You See Me 2

Lizzy Caplan enjoyed not having to play the "token female" in 'Now You See Me 2'.

The 33-year-old actress portrays Lula in the thriller film about a group of magicians and has revealed she was willing to battle for the "freedom" to not play a stereotypical woman in the movie when she was cast.

However, she didn't have to fight her corner as she and writer Ed Solomon worked together on the script to create a fully rounded character.

She said: "I would have fought against that. They (the people in the movie industry) do like to promise that before things happen and then they're like, 'Just kidding.' They were really cool and Ed Solomon, the writer, we were working together on the script before we even left to go shoot the movie, so it was unbelievably collaborative the whole time."

The brunette beauty admits she's never had so much "freedom" working on a comedy film before and she enjoyed being able to make her as "strange" as she wanted to.

She added: "I have to say, and this isn't even a straight up comedy, there's other stuff going on, but they gave me so much free reign to improvise and make the character as strange and odd as I wanted, and not the two dimensional token female role.

"I felt more freedom on this than I have a lot of comedies I've done."

Lizzy was also pleased that some improvised lines she came up with were included in the film.

She said: "There are a few lines in the movie that I improvised, and they are all about, 'why do you think a girl can't do it?' And that was just really how I was feeling in the moment. But they incorporated it into the character, which is fantastic."

Lizzy stars in the movie alongside a stellar cast which includes Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco,

Daniel Radcliffe, Sir Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.
