Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep are making another movie together

They might have despised each other in The Devil Wears Prada, but it seems Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep can’t get enough of each other in real life.

The pair starred together in the big-screen adaptation of Into The Woods in 2014, and now Streep has reportedly signed on to join Blunt in the upcoming adaptation of Mary Poppins.

While the movies couldn’t be more different to each other, Streep is set to continue her villainous streak by playing Mary Poppins' cousin, Topsy, who is described as being unfriendly and “peevish” – but only at first:

"A round, red-faced woman, looking more like two apples placed one on top of the other than a human being, stood in the doorway. Her straight hair was scraped into a knob at the top of her head and her thin mouth had a cross and peevish expression.

"But as she turned a curious change came over her. Her round face lost its peevish expression and began to shine with smiles. And Jane and Michael, with a start of surprise, saw her straight hair crinkle into a mass of little curls and ringlets as she whirled and twirled through the room. When she spoke again her gruff voice was as sweet as honeysuckle,” reads the book.

The character’s change will be welcome news for Blunt, who joked that Streep “owed her” after she saved her life while filming Into The Woods.

"I did save her life,” Blunt said at the time. “We were rehearsing a scene where she's playing the witch and she's supposed to jump onto the table with a cape and everything.

"I just saw this thing happen in slow-motion... You know when you see something awful happen and it's like the sound cuts out, you know?

"Meryl Streep's foot got caught in her cape and we just started to watch her slowly topple head-first toward the concrete floor."

Streep is, of course, expected to pay her co-star back for the rescue mission.

"She owes me! She should play my lowly dressmaker," Emily joked on 'The Late Show With David Letterman'. She owes me big time. She was tormenting me in [The Devil Wears Prada], and now she's tormenting me in this movie. She's this witch that has cast this horrible spell on our house. I just said, 'This is it.' We couldn't have any other dynamic now: 'You just have to hate me in films.'

Fortunately for Blunt, it seems the tides may have turned!
