Will Smith to play Genie in Aladdin remake
A-list actor Will Smith has been cast to play Genie in the live-action remake of the hit film Aladdin.
It was announced that the IAm Legend star would be taking on the iconic role at the D23 Expo on Saturday.
The late Robin Williams was Genie in the original 1992 animated Disney film, so the actor has some big shoes to fill. We have no doubt he’ll be brilliant though!
But what has been on everyone’s mind is who would play Aladdin himself and, oh boy, have Disney found a winner.
Mena Massoud, an Egyptian-Canadian actor, was announced as the lead character and while having played a fair few roles in his time this is definitely a major break for the actor.
And wow he is he buff!
He took to Twitter to express his gratitude and thanks having been chosen to play the lead role.
So honored & grateful for the opportunity to help bring this magical story to life once again. Let's get to work! #Aladdin #Disney https://t.co/itxmiDHtLL

British actress Naomi Scott has been cast to play Jasmine.
The 24-year-old recently starred as the Pink Ranger in Power Rangers.
She also expressed her excitement about being offered a role in the film.
So excited to be a part of this adventure! This is gonna be fun :) https://t.co/fFpkkEg2kR

The announcement comes as Disney prepares for many other live-action remakes to hit cinemas in the coming years.
The recent remake of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson was a box office hit.
