13 Reasons Why director spills Season 2 details

Since the news broke this week that there will be a second season of Netflix’s controversial hit 13 Reasons Why, fans have been trying to figure out what the next series will be about.

After all, isn’t Hannah Baker’s story over now we’ve heard all the tapes?

According to showrunner Bryan Yorkey – it’s not!

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Yorkey confirms that Katherine Langford (who plays Hannah) will appear in Season 2, as we’re still going to be learning more about her life and the reasons behind her suicide.

“I have heard from a number of people, “Well we heard all her tapes so her story is done,’” Yorkey says. “We saw Hannah’s version of events unfold, but there’s a lot more to be told also about those characters. To me, there’s a tremendous amount that I still want to know.”

Yorkey teases that Season 2 will “pick up a number of months after the first season ended” and will feature a different voiceover instead of Hannah’s.

“We’re definitely still weaving past and present [timelines]. And there’s voiceover in every episode, but the voiceover is no longer Hannah,” he reveals.

“The voiceover and the stories that are being told bring us into the past and back to the present much in the way that Hannah’s voiceover did in Season 1.”

While the first season revolved around the cassette tapes that Hannah left behind to explain why she took her own life, the next series will have a different hook.

“The tapes are still obviously on people’s minds, but there is a different sort of analog technology that plays a hugely important role in Season 2,” Yorkey told Entertainment Weekly.

The series has been both praised and criticised for its depiction of rape culture, sexual assault, self harm and suicide. Source: Netflix

“There will be a new piece of technology for 13-year-olds to Google and try to understand what it was.”
