EXCLUSIVE: Sam on same-sex marriage: ‘We need to move on’

She holds a minor degree in politics, and now TV host Samantha Armytage has used her expertise to speak out on the issue of marriage equality in Australia.

Speaking to Be at the Myer Summer Fashion Launch the 40-year-old breakfast TV host said, “We’re a good country and we need to get this sorted and move on.”

Addressing the upcoming same-sex marriage postal plebiscite, Sam voiced concerns the vote may lead to a “backlash” of negative attention around the issue.

“I just hope there’s not so much talk about it that there’s a backlash,’ she said.

Sam, whose minor study in her degree was American Politics, says she usually avoids showing support for any political party when it comes to her role on Sunrise.

“I try not to be too political – it’s not my job to tell people how to vote,” she said, adding that the team – which also includes Natalie Barr, David ‘Kochie’ Koch and Mark Baretta – aren’t given much directive before each show.

“We’re given the job and we’re let to run free,” she said.

Speaking at the same event, fellow Channel Seven morning show host Kylie Gillies weighed in on the issue.

"Why hasn’t it happened yet? Why are we going through this extrodinarily drawn out process?"

While the star of the event, Jennifer Hawkins also gave her thoughts on the marriage equality debate saying she "just doesn't understand why it hasn't already been done".
