Lisa Wilkinson 'never got to say goodbye'

It’s been almost a week since Lisa Wilkinson announced her shock exit from the Today show after a decade at the desk, and now she’s finally spoken out about what she describes has been a ‘helluva week’.

Taking to Instagram to share how she is feeling after leaving her role at Channel Nine, the host revealed she has but one regret after the whole saga.

“It's been a helluva week. I'm only sorry that I never got the chance to say goodbye to you all...the incredibly supportive, engaged, opinionated, clever and wonderfully diverse audience of Today,” she wrote.

The experienced host also took the time to thank viewers for all the fun years, saying it has been ‘an absolute privilege’.

Lisa also posted an old publicity photo of herself and former co-host Karl Stefanovic, possibly wanting to clarify that there are no hard feelings between the pair, despite the fact his higher pay is reportedly the reason she left.

“This pic is from Karl's and my very first publicity shoot way back in May 2007. Look at us, we were babies,” she wrote.

“For 10 years, she handled the brutal hours with grace, beauty and intelligence and a wicked sense of humour. For whatever reason she won’t be doing that anymore. It is safe to say we are all a little shocked and it will take time to sink in,” he said at the time.

Within days, Lisa then announced she had signed a deal with rival network Channel Ten and would join The Project as host, in a deal that’s rumoured to be worth $2 million.
