EXCLUSIVE Tessa James: 'I'm excited for the next chapter'

At just 26, Tessa James has more life experience than many.

She's starred on Home & Away and Neighbours, married a star NRL player, beaten Hodgkin's Lymphoma – and now she and husband Nate Myles are expecting their first baby.

Now in the second trimester, Tessa and Nate recently headed to her hometown on the Gold Coast for a mini babymoon.

"I’m feeling great," Tessa told Be, "and I’m looking forward to the next chapter."

"I don’t feel the need to put myself under any pressure," she said. "I’ll just take things as they come."

And she's leaving the door open to a stint in Hollywood.

"As an actor, you always stay open to opportunity," she said, "but at the moment my focus is here."

While Tessa is currently in remission from the Hodgkin's Lymphoma that she was diagnosed with in 2014, cancer research continues to be close to her heart – so it was a no-brainer when she was approached by DreamLab to be an ambassador for their groundbreaking new app.

"When I was approached about DreamLab, I was invited to do a tour of the research facilities at the Garvan Institute [where the app was designed]," she told Be.

"It was incredibly inspiring to meet the team and see the work they do. The DreamLab concept is so innovative and I’m very happy to be involved in this project. What I love most is just how easy it is to make a meaningful contribution to cancer research by downloading this app."

The app, which is now available on iOS and Android, works by combining the processing power of Australian mobile devices with an internet connection to create the world’s first distributed smartphone supercomputer for cancer research. While you sleep, it uses your phone's spare memory to assist scientists.

Tessa said her cancer journey had given her a different outlook on life.

"Having been through this experience and come out the other side, I’m conscious of the perspective it has given me," she told Be.

"I appreciate what every day brings and am delighted to be able to give something back through associations such as DreamLab."
