Expert reveals the dangerous mistake Harry and William are making
They’re the fascinating family that continues to captivate people around the world.
From the adorable handholding of Prince Harry and his new wife Meghan Markle, to cheeky snaps of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s brood, public appetite for the British royal family is insatiable.
With the media attention of the young royals at an all-time high, an expert has warned that protective princes William and Harry may be going about things all wrong.
While other royals such as the Queen are known for their ability to cope with the intense media spotlight, and work side-by-side with paparazzi, author Marlene Koenig claims Prince William and Prince Harry are “building walls” around themselves in their very concerted bid to try and control the situation.
“William and Harry have distanced themselves from the media, and made things much more difficult for everyone around them,” Marlene Koenig told news.com.au.
Marlene goes on to explain the brothers’ attitude comes from how their mum Princess Diana tragically passed away in 1997, following claims she was being pursued by Paris paparazzi.
The animosity between the young royals and the press has seen them lash out in very public ways.
In 2015, Prince William and Kate Middleton released an angry statement, slamming increasingly dangerous tactics photographers were using to try and capture images of Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
“The worry is that it will not always be possible to quickly distinguish between someone taking photos and someone intending to do more immediate harm,” the statement read.
Prince Harry took the unprecedented step of issuing a statement during the early stages of his relationship with former Suits star Meghan Markle, saying the treatment towards his love had “seen a line crossed”.
His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment,” the statement issued by the Communications Secretary to the prince said.
“Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”
While it’s completely understandable the brothers would try their best to protect their families, Marlene claims there needs to be a middle ground reached, otherwise things are set to escalate.
“They should be more offering to the public, to the media, and issue more things particularly when it comes to how [Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis] are growing up, and how Meghan is getting on,” she added.
“They certainly need to find a better balance than they have now, because the more you give, the less temptation there is to create stories.”
