Aussie supermodel Miranda Kerr opened the David Jones Autumn/Winter 2013 fashion show last night in an eye-catching design by Ellery.

It was a controversial and arguably antagonistic move by David Jones in light of Kym Ellery's recent defection from rival store Myer.

Myer and Ellery will next meet in the Supreme Court on April 15 in a legal fight over an exclusivity contract.

Media reports in January quoted Myer merchandise general manager Adam Stapleton as stating his store believed Ellery had acted in breach of a contract the designer signed excluding her from supplying rival David Jones.

However Ellery signed a contract with David Jones in late 2012, and said last night that it was an "honour" to be asked to open the show.

"It is such a prestigious event and we are so excited to be involved; let alone be the opening act," she told media.

Model of the minute Kerr also showed off designs by labels including Collette Dinnigan, Willow, Josh Goot, Zimmerman, and closed the show in a leather outfit by Dion Lee.

The Gunnedah-native was joined on the catwalk by fellow David Jones ambassadors Jason Dundas, Samantha Harris and Jessica Gomes.

Perth-born Kym Ellery launched her fashion label in 2007, and among her high profile fans are Lara Bingle, Dita Von Teese and Georgia May Jagger.
