Anna Wintour praises Amy Schumer

Not long after ‘swapping jobs’ with the comedian, the 66-year-old editor-in-chief of American Vogue has lavished praise on Amy during a speech in Cannes, France, saying she is the sort of celebrity that consumers crave.

She explained: "We live in an age that prizes authenticity. Just look at our current Vogue cover girl Amy Schumer, whose success is built on a raw, unfiltered and very human person.

"Bringing personal experience and emotion to the table resonates with audiences… audiences respond to people who dare to be different."

Amy wasn’t the only recipient of Anna’s praise, with Beyonce and her new visual album 'Lemonade' also getting some love.

According to the New York Post newspaper, Anna joked: "It is truly an amazing empowering piece of art, unless of course your name happens to be Becky."

Wintour’s Cannes speech was uncharacteristically jokey - complete with digs at Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, and even her candidate of choice, Hillary Clinton.

She alluded to Trump during the speech, saying, “Politics is not traditionally a creative industry, but in America it’s currently being dominated by people with very active imaginations.”

Wintour went on to reference Bernie Sanders when talking about a GQ story on hermits that was an unexpected hit. “Hermits are not publicity seekers, unless of course you count Bernie Sanders,” she said, before calling the septuagenarian senator “as old and as snow capped as Mont Blanc.”
