Legendary fashion photographer Bill Cunningham passes away

Legendary fashion photographer, Bill Cunningham, credited with photographing some of the biggest names in the business passed away on Saturday US time. The publication where he worked, New York Times, confirmed his death at age 87.

Cunningham was rushed to hospital on Thursday following a stroke, but unfortunately passed away a few days later.

Cunningham was a fashion street photographer and his photo trends graced the pages of the New York Times for almost 40 years. The newspaper’s publisher Arthur Sulzberger said in a statement, "We have lost a legend, and I am personally heartbroken to have lost a friend."

Cunningham's longtime assistant John Kurdewan also posted a tribute on Instagram. He wrote, "William John Cunningham, the genius who created the art form of street photography and had the most singular eye in fashion, died this afternoon from the complications following a stroke."

Countless celebrities have also started posting tributes on social media, including Gig Hadid, Brad Goreski and Martha Hunt.
