Samantha Harris: "There should definitely be more Indigenous models"



Australian model Samantha Harris has spoken out diversity in the fashion industry, stating that there needs to more Indigenous models.

Speaking to The Morning Show Harris said that while there are more Indigenous models in the industry now than when she first started out as a teenager, she believes there "definitely" needs to be more.

"When I started modelling - from what I’m aware of - I was probably one of very few Indigenous models, if not the only, but now there are much more girls in the modelling industry," she said.

"There should definitely be more Indigenous models but I think we’re progressing as time has gone on."

The 25-year-old stunner, who hails from Tweed Heads, was catapulted into fame when she took part in the 2004 Girlfriend model search, which she claims changed her life forever.

“I remember when I first started modeling my goal was being in the Kmart and Target catalogues," she said.

The model has come a long way since her catalogue dreaming days, taking to the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia for New York based label TOME on day four of the Aussie fashion festival in May.

She looked incredible as she walked down the catwalk at Carriageworks wearing a selection of sheath dresses from the label.

Harris is currently involved in Girlfriend magazine's Girlfriend Model Search, where she will judge young girls hoping to follow in her footsteps.
