Anna Wintour is reportedly styling Hillary Clinton

We don’t typically associate Anna Wintour with coordinated pantsuits and Mandarin-collared jackets — but perhaps we should.

According to a new report by Business of Fashion, Vogue’s leading lady has been responsible for much of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign wardrobe. Writes Kate Abnett, “Clinton has been consulting American Vogue editor-in-chief and Democratic party fundraiser Anna Wintour on her wardrobe choices for key moments of the campaign.”

Clearly, Wintour’s relationship with Clinton has come a long way since she had to be convinced by Oscar de la Renta to put the then First Lady on Vogue’s cover in December 1998.

But just how involved has Wintour been in the process? Abnett describes the editor-in-chief as a sort of go-between, contacting American labels to get pieces for Clinton. “On certain occasions,” she says, “Wintour has approached designers to procure outfits for Clinton, who has settled into a uniform of brightly colored pantsuits and jackets by U.S. designers.”

Still, it’s clear that Wintour isn’t the only one helping HRC look like an HBIC. In June, the New York Post noticed Clinton’s new clothes and claimed that she’d “hired a team of image experts that includes former Michelle Obama aide Kristina Schake, who’s been tasked with shaping her style and making her more relatable,” and was “even rumored to have Veep makeup artist Barbara Lacy on the payroll.”

The Post broke down some of Clinton’s recent outfits by designer and price, estimating that, overall, she had likely shelled out “at least $200,000 on new clothes to wear” while campaigning.

“Some recent style hits for Clinton include a custom-made blue silk Ralph Lauren suit worn to last year’s campaign kickoff on Roosevelt Island (similar styles of the jacket sell for $2,200 and up),” the story noted, “a blue beaded coat by Andrew Gn donned at a New York City fundraiser on Mar. 2 (similar styles by the designer sell for $3,000 and up at Bergdorf Goodman), and a tailored black suit custom-made by Susanna Beverly Hills sported at a Knoxville, Iowa, campaign rally on Jan. 25 (the label’s suits start at $6,000).”

(It’s worth noting, by the way, that Clinton’s Republican competitor Donald Trump regularly wears Brioni suits, which cost more than $7,000 a pop.)

Oh — and if you’re wondering, Business of Fashion insists that Clinton doesn’t receive any of her wardrobe items as gifts. Her campaign pays for them all.
