Vogue slammed for Photoshopping disabilities onto models for Paralympic shoot
Flick through any magazine and you’re guaranteed to see a little Photoshopping at work.
But Vogue Brazil have taken things to a whole new level, coming under fire for digitally altering the images of two celebrities to promote the upcoming Paralympic Games.

Rather than use actual athletes, the magazine featured Paralympic ambassadors and actors Cleo Pires and Paulo Vilhena, altering the images to depict disabilities and captioning the image, “We are all Paralympians”.
The images were inspired by two real life Paralympians - table tennis player, Bruninha Alexandre who had her arm amputated when she was young, and sitting volleyball player, Renato Leite who plays with a prosthetic leg.
Even worse, an Instagram snap posted by Bruninha revealed the inspiring athletes were actually on set, but weren’t included in the shoot.
Understandably, the internet was outraged.

Vogue Brazil’s art director Clayton Carneiro has hit back at the criticism, saying their main goal was to raise publicity – which they’ve clearly done.
“For those who do not know, the idea of the campaign came from the paralympic ambassador, Cleo Pires,” he said.
“We knew it would be a punch in the stomach, but we were there for a good cause, after all, almost no one bought tickets to see the Paralympic Games.”
