Gigi Hadid was made to wear a poncho on the runway because she wasn’t thin enough

In today’s body shaming news, it’s been revealed that a Tommy Hilfiger casting director actually had the nerve to suggest that Gigi Hadid isn't model-worthy.

Yes that’s right – one of today’s most in-demand faces was made to wear a poncho on the Tommy Hilfiger runway because her body was deemed “not quite thin enough”.

According to Hilfiger himself, the brand’s casting director said, “'She doesn't really fit because you know she's not quite as tall as the other girls, she's not quite as thin,’” the designer recalled. "So they put a red, white and blue poncho on her.

“The garment covered a lot of her body, unfortunately, but received millions of hits."

Despite the controversy, Hilfiger managed to turn things around by asking the model to design a line for the brand.

" I said, 'Gigi, come design this for me,” he told Yahoo Style. “We'll do a Gigi Tommy Hilfiger line."

Luckily, or perhaps because Gigi was unaware of the casting director’s comments, the brand partnership went ahead.

"Designing with Tommy was an incredible experience," said Hadid in an interview with Harper's Bazaar. "Every time I see him it reminds me that being positive is so important. He's always happy and welcoming and warm, and it trickles down to his entire company. Being nice is so important. It's something I think Tommy appreciates in me and something I appreciate in him, so that's why we work well together."

Hilfiger also went on to feature Gigi in a bikini on the runway, proving that he disagreed with the casting director’s comments altogether.

While there's been no comment about the controversy from the model herself yet, it seems only a matter of time before she addresses the issue. After all, she famously took to social media to address her body shamers earlier this year.

"Yes, I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs," she wrote on Instagram. "Your mean comments don't make me want to change my body."

You go girl!
