Victoria's best restaurants have been crowned

You’d think Melbourne’s 'funky' restaurants would have won at The Age Good Food Guide 2017 Awards but that wasn't the case.

It was regional Victorian restaurants that took out the top awards this year.

Birregurra’s Brae - run by renowned chef Dan Hunter - won Restaurant of the Year, while Geelong’s Igni went home with two awards including Victoria's Best Regional Restaurant.

Chef of the Year went to Aaron Turner and Regional Wine List of the Year went to Provenance in Beechworth.

The Yarra Valley’s Ezard @ Levantine Hill was the winner of this year’s People’s Choice Award and Teage Ezard’s two-hatted Ezard Melbourne restaurant saw chef Jarrod Di Blasi win Young Chef of the Year.

A number of regional restaurants were awarded two hats out of a possible three, putting regional dining well and truly on the culinary map.

The success of regional restaurants this year certainly seems to have given the CBD’s eateries a run for their money, but that didn't seem to stop Melbourne’s regular achievers from scoring more hats.

Attica, Vue de Monde and Minamishima (Restaurant of the Year 2015) all scored three hats this year, proving fine dining is by no means going anywhere.
