If there was ever a dream job, being a professional chocolate taster would be right at the top of the list.

While we somehow managed to miss the memo this was an actual profession, lucky Hayleigh Perks is living the life as a chocolate scientist for Cadbury.

After working her way up from being a chocolatier’s apprentice at the company’s Birmingham factory, Hayleigh joined the taste panel whose job it is to sample all the prototypes.

With just 10 people on the panel, Cadbury recently insured the 28-year-old’s tongue for $1.6 million.

“I’m the only one in the company to have this and it’s a big responsibility – I have to avoid eating certain things, such as hot chilli peppers, because they could damage my taste buds, but I can live with that,” Hayleigh told The Sun.

While eating chocolate all day sounds pretty fun, Hayley, who has a degree in natural sciences specialising in chemistry, admits most people don’t know how much effort goes into developing new chocolate bars.

“One day I’ll taste-test new combinations to make sure the flavour is spot-on before consumers try them out, while another I’ll be flicking through magazines to check out fashion trends that we can incorporate into our packaging,” she says.

“It took me and my team two years to perfect the Marvellous Creations range, which included jelly popping candy shells.”

Sounds like a pretty sweet gig to us.
