The secret to keeping salad recipes exciting

Are you getting sick and tired of the same old salad for lunch?

It’s hard to stick to our healthy routine when the cold weather has us reaching for comfort food.

But fear not, there are ways to keep your salad recipes exciting – and make them just as good as any comfort good.

"People always feel that by eating healthy they have to compromise and that’s just not the case,” co-founder of Sumo Salad Luke Baylis tells Be.

“Salads are such a versatile thing, because a salad can be a mixture of any ingredients.”

“Try to make the mixture as innovative and exciting as you can by adding beautiful charcoal-cooked meats, delicious sauces, hot nourishing grains, fresh vegetables or roasted vegetables,” Luke explains.

“It’s as good as any comfort food, so you can still have delicious hearty meals without neglecting your health.”

In winter Luke loves adding slow cooked lamb to his salads, along with lentils, fresh herbs, fetta, almonds for crunch, and super food grains.

Sadly, not everyone has access to this kind of meal and so Sumo Salad has teamed up with OzHarvest once again for the Heat up the Street campaign with the goal of feeding 20,000 homeless people this winter.

“Winter is extremely challenging for the homeless and underprivileged. So being able to provide homeless people with warm nutritious foods and get the team out there and activity support the charity is great,” Luke says.

“It allows us to make a positive difference to those less fortunate’ and allows us to give a little warmth and happiness to disadvantaged people living in Australia.”

Every time someone posts a photo of a salad/wrap/soup they bought and tags #heatupthestreet, Sumo Saladwill donate a meal to a homeless person.

How great are salads!
