The one thing Macca's staff say you should never order

It's one of the longest-standing menu items sold at McDonald's outlets, but staff of the fast-food chain say it's one of the riskiest to order.

A recent Reddit thread asking restaurant workers about the dishes people should steer clear of saw the Filet-O-Fish take top spot as the McDonald's food to avoid.

"At McDonald's just say you want a fish filet cooked to order," one employee wrote. "It will take ~5 more minutes but worth it compared to the filet that has been in the heated cabinet for hours."

And the comment set off a flurry of responses, with other current and former Macca's workers chiming in to agree.

"I came here to say this. Seriously. It's been 3 years since I worked there but I can promise you that filet of fish is not fresh by any stretch of the imagination," another Redditor wrote.

One McDonald's customer argued they would never expect the fish burgers to be fresh in the first place.

"I feel like that is the social contract I make with McDonald's whenever I order the filet (and I do so often it's my favorite thing on the menu)," Reddit user ThePeskyHeskey wrote.

"If you're going to serve me a square piece of fish that tastes the exact same whether I order it in Denver or the south of France, I am under no assumption that it is by any means fresh (I mean it's square for f***'s sake) and I am completely okay with that, it's my go-to comfort food."

Happily, Aussies don't have to worry about being sold stale seafood burgers.

"[In] Australia, this was phased out a good 10+ years, and everything is made to order," explained one commenter.
