The "deconstructed coffee" brewing controversy taking social by storm

Put down your Orange Mocha Frappuccino, there’s a ridiculous new coffee trend in town – the deconstructed caffeine fix.

While going out to get a coffee would perhaps indicate we would want that coffee made for us, Melburnians are now being forced to do it themselves.

And not everyone is embracing the idea. Coffee drinker Jamila Rizvi took to Facebook after her order for a flat white saw her being served a board bearing beakers of coffee, water and milk.

“Sorry Melbourne but no. No no no no no. This is peak hipster wanker,” she wrote.

“I just waited almost 20 minutes for an actual cup before realising it would not be forthcoming. I wanted a coffee. Not a science experiment.”

With her post attracting over 13,000 likes, some have been supportive saying they like to control how strong their brew is, while others are a bit less enthusiastic.

“If someone wanted a 'deconstructed' coffee they'd just make the bloody thing at home,” wrote one commenter.

Whatever the case, paying $4.50 to make our own coffee seems like a case of hipsterism gone too far to us…
