Don't keep your eggs in the fridge door

You know those handy little egg racks inside the door of almost every fridge? Well you should stop using them. Now.

Despite the fact these racks appear to be super handy and a neat little way to store your eggs, keeping them in the fridge door can actually see them rot faster.

Vlatka Lake, from Space Station, explains this is because when eggs sit in the door, rather than within the actual fridge, they are exposed to more temperature changes.

“Egg racks are susceptible to changes in temperature due to the fridge door opening and closing,” Vlatka says.

Because they are constantly going from cool to warmer temperatures, the eggs will rot much quicker due to these constant changes.

There is no avoiding opening and closing the fridge door, especially in a busy household, so the recommendation is to keep them in the fridge.

Just not the rack in the door.

And if you are someone who prefers to not even put their eggs in the fridge, Vlatka still recommends keeping them cooler is generally the better way to go.
