It’s time to step away from the low-fat salad dressing, because according to research it’s actually healthier to go full-fat.
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has revealed in a new study that salads with full-fat dressing can actually lead to more nutrient absorption.
In fact, adding more oil to your salad can lead to better absorption of seven key nutrients, including ones essential for healthy intestine.
The study looked at the salads of 12 college-age students, who are a variety of salads each day.
They found that the more full-fat oil that was added to the salad, the more absorption there was.
“The best way to explain it would be to say that adding twice the amount of salad dressing leads to twice the nutrient absorption,” Lead author Professor Wendy White from Iowa State University told the Daily Mail.
However, if you think you can douse your salad in dressing, think again, because the recommendation is to have two tablespoons of oil per day.
The study found 32 grams of oil was the optional amount to add to your salad to maximize absorption.
