Groom wore sneakers to his wedding and people are outraged

It was the epic three-day wedding extravaganza that saw Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor tie the knot with her boyfriend Anand Ahuja.

Naturally, the bride – who is one of the highest paid Bollywood actresses – looked incredible in a red-and-gold lehenga (a traditional ankle-length skirt) by designer Anuradha Vakil during the wedding ceremony.

While her groom similarly scrubbed up in tan-colored sherwani (a long coat) and matching pagdi (headdress), it was what the businessman decided to step out in at their reception that sparked controversy.

The couple made their first public appearance as newlyweds at The Leela Hotel, Mumbai.

While the glowing bride changed into an Anamika Khanna long-sleeved blouse, striped lehenga and a cape, her new hubby went for a decidedly more casual look.

Despite looking the part in a monochrome sherwani, it was his choice of runners to accessorise the outfit that had the Twitterverse in uproar.

Some speculated Anand’s choice of footwear was strategic to deal with the celebrations.

“When your feet are tired from dancing too much at your wedding sangeet but you don’t care and wear comfy shoes so that you can dance some more,” joked one Twitter user.
