Guy Pearce claims Kevin Spacey is a 'handsy guy'

Guy Pearce has spoken about his encounters with actor Kevin Spacey while making L.A. Confidential.

The pair starred in the Oscar-winning noir thriller in 1997, with Pearce as the straight-laced new recruit to the LAPD and Spacey as the wily veteran cop with his eyes on Hollywood.

In an interview with Australian chat show host Andrew Denton, Pearce was asked about working with Spacey early on in his film career.

Clearly not wanting to reveal too much, Pearce said: “Yeah… Yeah. Tough one to talk about at the moment. Amazing actor; incredible actor. Mmm. Slightly difficult time with Kevin, yeah.”

He then added, to a gasp from the audience: “He’s a handsy guy. Thankfully I was 29, and not 14.”

Spacey has been accused of sexual assault and harassment by numerous men, the first to come forward being the Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp, who said that Spacey made a sexual advance toward him when he was 14.

Since Rapp’s claim, many more have come forward, among them Richard Dreyfuss’s son Harry and several crew-members from House of Cards.

Spacey was axed from the Netflix series soon after.

He’s not the first former co-star to have spoken about alleged on-set impropriety.

In December last year, Gabriel Byrne, Spacey’s co-star in The Usual Suspects, claimed that production had to be halted on the film because of his “inappropriate sexual behavior”.

He told The Sunday Times: “I did not know honestly then the extent of his violence. I mean, he was kind of a joke in that people would say, ‘That’s Kevin,’ but nobody really understood the depth of his predations. It was only years later that we began to understand that [filming] was closed down for a particular reason and that was because of inappropriate sexual behavior by Spacey.”
