WATCH: Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez engaged
According to many reports, the star has had a change of heart, becoming engaged to actor Olivier Martinez. Gossip magazine Us Weekly confirmed that the Frenchman proposed over the holidays with a "one-of-a-kind" emerald-and-diamond ring from Gurhan.
The two met on the set of "Dark Tide," and went public as a couple in the fall of 2010. Perhaps it's not surprising that Berry was gun-shy of tying the knot a third time. Her two previous marriages ended in divorce: with former baseball player David Justice and then with singer Eric Benet.
Berry's most recent relationship, with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, resulted in their 3-year-old daughter, Nahla. The split ended in a nasty custody dispute.
The man who caught Berry's eye was dubbed "the French Brad Pitt" and has caught notice for his acting abilities on both sides of the Atlantic. The Parisian received a César Award (the French Oscar) for "most promising actor" in 1994, and has starred in both French and American films, most notably "Unfaithful" and "S.W.A.T."
The 45-year-old has been romantically linked to actresses Mira Sorvino and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and, most recently, the Australian pop star Kylie Minogue.
Editor's Note: To that end, Ms. Minogue took to Twitter overnight to wish the pair congratulations on their engagement, tweeting: "Congrats to Olivier Martinez and Halle Berry!! #wedding." How sweet!
The former welterweight boxer who rides motorcycles -- and almost died on one some 10 years ago -- managed to avoid settling down, saying at one point, "I want just to be happy and peaceful. And that's not always the case when you're married."
Perhaps Berry would refer fans to her more recent declaration in Vogue in the September 2010 issue, when she admitted, "I'm not done with love, but I refuse to settle. I am a hopeless romantic."
That seems to make two of them.
