After getting into a war-of-words over his scoring technique Candice told the 59-year-old it was “beyond her” how he had achieved anything in life.

To that David quipped back: “Well, according to Google your greatest achievement was done in a toilet cubical”, referring to a scandal involving Candice and Sonny Bill Williams that took place in 2007.

The comment drew gasps from their fellow contestants Sam Frost and Pettifleur Berenger who called the slur a “low blow” and “disgusting”.

Candice maintained her composure during the incident and calmly responded to David by asking him, “and so how is Pauline Hanson?”

David and Pauline founded the One Nation political party, and according to the red head engaged in a heated affair during the party’s early days.

Speaking to The Morning Show David defened his comments saying the former iron woman “had a go first”.

“Candice started having a go at me right at the first at the very beginning of the show,” David told hosts Ryan Phelan and Kylie Gillies.

“If people have a go I have a go back. I can’t help it if sometimes my go is maybe a bit more harsh or a bit more savage, but you can expect that,” he said.

“Look, I saw it when I got home and I thought ‘oh wow’ but when we saw it in its entirety, Candice made the first shot across the bow. So, you know, don’t bring a knife to a gun fight, Candice. I know well enough not to take on David Oldfield.”

Candice has previously spoken about how the incident, which occurred in 2007, involving Sonny Bill “damaged” her.
