IKEA designer rates this product as the store's best ever

These days it’s hard to find a home that doesn’t have something from IKEA in it, I mean the one-stop furniture store has become so popular around the world that it practically stocks everything you could ever need.

Yet out of their thousands and thousands of products have you ever wondered what is ranked as the best of the best?

Well, designer Marcus Engman – who has been with the Swedish company since he was 16 – had his say and according to him, there is just one product that will forever be iconic.

And that is the Klippan two seat sofa!

His reason being that the $200 buy is compact enough to fit easily through most house doorways, and can easily be transformed through its interchangeable fabric covers.

While there could be a bit of bias with this choice considering the sofa was actually designed by his father Lars Engman in the 1970s, you can’t deny that this design is still seen in homes and style magazines today.

“It’s a sofa that evolves with you,” Marcus says.

“You can change its colour and live with it for a long time. I still remember when he brought it home for tests, and he asked me and my sister what we thought of it.”

To keep it on trend the original wooden framed design has transformed over the years and now features more lightweight materials, aluminium legs and has been redesigned in order to fit as a flat pack ready to assemble at home.

“I have a lot of fond memories with that sofa,” Engman admits. “I’m glad it has survived for so long.”
