Insanely clever housework hacks

Let's face it, nobody likes cleaning so if there's a way we can make it that little bit less stressful we'll take it with both hands.

And that's exactly what one mum did when she took to advice forum mumsnet.com to ask how others minimise their workload around the house.

Over 400 people replied to the mum, who goes by the name 'EIsbethTascioni' on the site, with some some pretty epic housework hacks.

We've compiled some of the best answers so you're in the know about these life-changing cleaning shortcuts.

The mum started off by giving away her own housework secrets.

"Clean the shower while you're in it. Gamechanger. Saves masses of time," she started.

"Storing duvet sets inside their pillow case. I was sceptical about this one but with four beds in the house it has a)made my linen cupboard tidier and b)means no more rummaging.

"Using the big IKEA bags as laundry bags. They are just the right size for a load of washing in a standard machine and you can fold them up and put them away tidily instead of having plastic baskets hanging around."

Others soon piped in to with their own nuggets of wisdom.

"Wash socks in a delicates bag so they don't get lost," one person said.

"White vinegar for dishwasher rinse aid and cleaning mirrors/windows and mirrored surfaces like ovens and microwave," another said.

"Use clear nail polish on buttons- right over the thread. I've done this at the beginning of each school year and in 12 years, I've never had to sew on a button," another person said.

One person recommended putting a few drops of mint, lavender or rose oil in the vacuum cleaner so you're house will smell amazing after you hoover.

Others showed off their stringent organisation skills by giving their own advice.

"Bulk buy birthday cards,get 6 months worth in one go. Write them and put them in order. It'll take an hour but then you're done and organised-no forgetting,no last minute rush to buy one or multiple trips to the shops," one mum said.

"Turn all the hangers in your wardrobe the wrong was round. If you wear something turn the hanger back the right way. If after twelve months something is still on a wrong way hanger then take it to the charity shop," another person said.

But the cleaning tips won, with many imparting their knowledge on the best household items to use to get off stubborn stains.

"If you have cups that are stained with tea/coffee, put a little drop of bleach in and fill with warm water leave to soak for about 10 mins then wash, nice white shiny inside again. Slices of lemon in a bowl of water put it in the microwave, it steams and makes cleaning it easier also smells good too," one house proud woman commented.

"Dishwasher tablet soaked in boiling water, use this to wipe inside of oven door, wipe over with eraser cube. So quick, easy and it works," another person said.

"A paste of bicarb and bleach does wonders to brighten grout. Especially if you leave it for a while then scrub it with a toothbrush," a housework genius said.
