Inside Meghan and Harry's $1200 a night honeymoon suite

The newly minted Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been married for over a week and it hasn’t seemed like there were any plans for a honeymoon. That may have changed, however, in light of TMZ reporting that the couple will spend their honeymoon at the Royal Retreat in Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Alberta, Canada.

The lodge has had quite a history of royal visitors. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (Harry’s great-grandparents) stayed there in 1939, and the current queen and Prince Philip enjoyed the Canadian wilderness in 2005.

And, of course, as the palace’s website notes in her bio, the Duchess of Sussex feels very connected to Canada. The country “became a second home to her,” as she lived in Toronto for seven years while acting on the show Suits.

Set in Alberta’s stunning Jasper National Park, the iconic resort is surrounded by nature and abundant wildlife.

The “Royal Retreat” refers to the Outlook Cabin, a 6,000-square-foot private residence with six bedrooms, six full en-suite bathrooms. According to the Fairmont’s website, the estate cabins start at at least $1200 a night. The newlyweds can enjoy canoeing on pristine lakes, hiking forest trails, flying above ancient glaciers, and watching wildlife.

The couple’s current schedule is light, although an announcement of social engagements could come any day, with only charity polo matches for Harry on the official docket at the moment. They initially delayed their honeymoon to attend their first official royal engagement as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — the 70th birthday patronage celebration for Prince Charles. Of course, if they do have plans to honeymoon, the details would not be officially released.

Travel & Leisure reported a month ago that the couple had planned to visit Namibia for their honeymoon, but that plan changed as reports emerged. Royal correspondent Omid Scobie told Elle.com that any location mentioned in the press would be off the post-wedding reception table because of safety concerns. We’re not sure if this will apply to any plans to travel to Canada.

The Irish Independent is reporting that in lieu of a proper honeymoon, the duke and duchess may take a one-night “mini-moon” to Ireland this summer.
