Instagram star's powerful message about acne

Acne acceptance is growing by leaps and bounds.

Earlier this year, a model who suffers from breakouts launched the #FreeThePimple campaign to encourage people to share photos of their spots.

And in January Kendall Jenner shutdown acne shamers in spectacular style after trolls criticized her for appearing at the Golden Globes with her blemishes on display.

The latest show of skin positivity comes from Rocio Cervantes, a 25-year-old makeup artist and vlogger.

Cervantes is gaining Instagram fans thanks to her refreshing attitude toward her acne. Instead of trying to hide her pimples, she is embracing them with a beauty hack that’s out of this world.

Cervantes took to social media to show off the inspiring makeup look, which was achieved by putting star-shaped stickers on her face and applying foundation on top, then peeling off the stickers to reveal her skin underneath.

The makeup artist told her Instagram followers that the star concept was something she’d been considering for a while.

“Last night I was thinking how it would be if I didn’t have acne [and] what I would look like,” she admitted. “Afterwards I was so ashamed of myself for thinking that because I am beautiful so I hope anyone dealing with anything whether it be acne or not knows that they will get through it.”

Cervantes often uses her social media platform to discuss the impact her skin has on her confidence.

“I’ve been dealing with a lot of breakouts that cause me to not be able to put on makeup for days or even weeks,” she wrote. “It’s very stressful, depressing and sad because I am so passionate about makeup and putting out content for y’all!”

She went on to explain that she’s been dealing with acne since she was 17, and is seeing a cognitive therapist to help her stop picking at her face. She is also hoping to use her platform to help “normalize” acne.

And it certainly seems to have had the desired effect, as the response to her skin-embracing posts has been hugely positive.

“You will get through this — you are beautiful and amazing for creating a post like this!!” one user wrote on Instagram. “I dealt with acne myself not only did it hurt me mentally but it was physically painful. This is so creative and selfless.”

“This is amazing!” another commented. “It makes me wanna do makeup again. I had kinda stopped because I compared my skin to others.”

“Keep your head up, girl,” another fan wrote. “I have major face scarring from acne and picking. I feel you. U WILL GET THRU THIS. U will find the right thing and your skin will improve; just don’t let it beat you down.”

Turning her pimples into stars is the makeup artist’s latest way to encourage people to accept their acne.

“I am so pleased because I’ve had several people message me telling me how it’s helped them be more confident and that’s all I want,” she said.

“I want people to know they are beautiful, and they don’t have to hide or put their head down when they go out, or cancel plans because of some acne,” she added.Acne should be normalized and that’s what I strive to do every day: break the boundaries in beauty!”
