Everyone’s talking about Ivanka’s dress… again

A visibly distraught war veteran’s widow took the spotlight during President Trump’s first address to Congress after he delivered a lengthy tribute to her late husband William “Ryan” Owens.

But quite a bit of chatter online was focused on the person standing next to her – and what she was wearing.

The President’s eldest daughter Ivanka Trump was promptly criticised on Twitter for arriving in a fitted, fuschia dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline and contrasting black strap.

Despite having a conservative midi-length hem, some suggested the businesswoman’s outfit was more suited to a night on the town rather than such a serious political sitting.

Others thought the open collar and bra strap-like detail was a little too sexy.

To make matters worse, many female Democrats chose to wear conservative, all white outfits as a symbol of women’s suffrage.

And Ivanka’s Roland Mouret frock, which retails at AU$4,000, was also awkwardly at odds with something her dad said during his all-important address, when he stressed that everyone “buy American.”

Of course Roland Mouret is a French designer.

Ivanka’s step-mum Melania Trump, also raised eyebrows with her choice of ensemble on the night – a glittering Michael Kors suit set that costs an eye-popping $AU12,000.

But at the end of the day, neither Ivanka or Melania are elected officials, nor are they seasoned politicians who are used to attending these kinds of serious events.

Not to mention, no one is looking at what their husbands are wearing.
