Mariah's emotional first words on Packer split

She’s maintained a dignified silence since splitting from her fiancé James Packer last month.

But finally, Mariah Carey has opened up about her heartbreak, struggling to keep it together in an emotional interview.

“That's a whole friggin' thing,” the diva said during an appearance on The Ellen Show.

Asked whether she’s coping “mentally” and whether she’s “happy,” the elusive chanteuse replied, “I think I’m doing well.”

“Everything happens for a reason, things are the way they are,” added the 46-year-old mum-of-two.

Ellen, who was just awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, then pressed Mariah on her ex’s appearance in her upcoming E! docu-series Mariah's World.

According to some reports, James has asked to be cut from the show, however, other sources have denied that.

“He didn’t want to be in the docu-series at all. And yet he’s in it. You see him,” Ellen noted.

"Allegedly," Mariah said, adding: “It’s kind of difficult to talk about it at the moment.”

Meanwhile, Mariah and James are reportedly deep in settlement negotiations, with TMZ reporting the singer wants US$50 million (AU$68 million) for uprooting her life to move to LA for him.
